A Porsche 928, which was made famous in one of Tom Cruise's early hit movies, went under the hammer in the US last month.

This particular Porsche 928 was actually built in 1979, but it found fame in the 1983 classic, "Risky Business", which would become one of the defining films of Cruise's career.

The Porsche 928 in question was expected to earn around $60,000 (£38,200) at auction, which is significantly higher than the typical asking price of a classic 928, even if it is in pristine shape.

The 928 was something of an anomaly when it originally launched, because it marked a major change in tact for Porsche. Unlike the 911, it featured a front mounted engine and so it remains something of an oddball, which not every enthusiast will be interested in owning.

However, with the power of a major motion picture behind it, this example has managed to earn plenty of attention and pick up large offers at auction.

The 928 continued to be produced until the mid 1990s, at which point it was taken out of Porsche's line up, allowing older models to enter the realm of true classics and sustain this status ever since.
